How are grades determined?
Student grades are weighted. 80% test, 20% homework and labs. There will never be a pop quiz.
Why do you use this scale?
These classes are demanding. It is the next step before college where grades are 100% tests. I am trying to prepare our students for the rigor of college and the pressures involved. I also get tired of students being rewarded for copying homework and not learning the material.
What is the extra credit?
Truth be told I do regular credit only. Extra credit will consist of various projects the school does, such as the food pantry or paws cause. Sometimes we have the students bring in Kleenex or latex gloves. Students will have a chance to "buy" one percentage point on their quarter grade. For example, a student has a 92% average for their quarter grade. If they bring in the required items for the extra credit during that quarter, their quarter grade will raise to a 93% average. This is available all four quarters.
Why did you give my son or daughter a bad grade?
Please understand I do not give grades. I put them into the computer and the computer figures their average. It is not my responsibility to see who passes and who does not, that is up to the student. A student's grade is what they earned. Please ask them why they received the grade they got, not me.
