What I need to know as a parent and student.
You or your son or daughter is enrolled in an upper level science class that is weighted. This means that these classes are not the normal standard classes. There will be more rigor involved. There will be a lot of work to do in and out of the classroom. There will be a lot of complex information to learn. There will be required reading. Students will have to put forth effort to see high marks. We have serious students in these classes that want to learn as much as they can. You must feel the same way.
It is my suggestion to drop immediately if the above paragraph scares you, if you are not in this class to learn, or if you are lazy. Please understand these are not blow off classes.
It has been my experience that students will fail or struggle to pass if any of the following apply:
#1 If they do not finish their homework, turn in their homework, or copy it.
They do not actively learn the material.
#2 They fail to pay attention in class or take some type of notes.
#3 They do not utilize their classroom time wisely.
Too much talking off task instead of working on a group assignment.
#4 They only study the night before the test.
Personal favorite of mine. Impossible to do. Too much information to know.
#5 They fail to study a little bit EVERY night.
They need to read their text or review their notes.
An alarm should go off if you do not see work at home!
#6 They take the class because their friend(s) took it.
